Let’s read Romans chapter 13! Amen! We are gradually drawing closer and closer to the end of the wonderful book of Romans! I’m excited! Are you? Amen. The 13th chapter of Romans opens up the importance of submission to authority to us. We also see the true fulfillment of the law by love. Isn’t it wonderful that all God really wants from us is for us to really dwell in love?
At this point, you may read through the entire chapter 13 on your own, first, and then you may return to read through my summary which follows immediately after this paragraph. As always, feel free to comment elements of your own understanding. I look forward to reading through them! Amen.
The state of man’s physical existence at this point and age is to be under man’s government and authority. Everyone has to be under this authority. It wasn’t God’s perfect intention, but it is what we have, now. The natural people are under just this authority of man as their guiding force. They know that there is punishment for going against this laws of man. It is their only foundation for proper behavior. As believers, we are returned back to how things were intended from the beginning. We are returned to God’s rule and authority. Not in the exact way we should have been, but nevertheless. As believers, as we are subject now to God’s authority and have the faith as our guide into life, this doesn’t mean that we rebel over man’s authority, because man’s authority has been instituted by God and it is established for God’s purpose, here, on earth. On the contrary, even, by being subject to God’s authority, we are mostly automatically caused to follow man’s authority.
The ability to be subject to authority issues from our advancement and growth into Christ. Our maturity in the life of Christianity. It is by the grace of transformation that we are able to walk under God’s authority and even so, under man’s rule. The tenets of man’s rule still stems from the commandments of God. These commandments are fulfilled if we have true love for those around us. We develop true love for those around us by having God, because God is love.
Eventually we see that being under man’s authority is a fulfillment of having God in us. Because by having God, we have love. By having love, we uphold the commandments. By upholding the commandments, we subject ourselves to the rule of man which stems from the commandments. Amen
Lord, we have nothing, except you. Be all to us.
