Let’s read Romans chapter 7!

Let’s read Romans chapter 7!! Amen! I feel we have come so far in such little time. We are now almost halfway through the book of Romans! Romans chapter 7 has 25 verses. It shows us what it really means to be released from the law. We get to see how of our own accord, we cannot escape the clutches of sin, but thank God for God! He made a way for us out of sin.

At this point, you may first read through the entire chapter 7 on your own, then return to read through my summary which follows immediately after this paragraph. Feel free to comment elements of your own understanding, I look forward to reading them!

The intention of God with the creation of man was to discover a bride in him. A bride worthy of the bridegroom, Jesus Christ. A bride separated unto Him. In Genesis, when man partook of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, sin came in and man fell. Christ had to come to recover man to God so that man may be counted righteous once again. So that the body, the bride intended by God may be established.

To become a member of this body of Christ, we cannot be joined to our former husband and our former manner of life. With the fall of Adam, we became married to death because our members became sin and the proceeds of sin is death. Being married to death, death lorded it over us and weakened our resolve. Christ came to put this death to the cross so that death may lose its hold and we may be free from the law that bound us to death. Now we have a new husband, praise the Lord. This husband is Christ and by being married to Him, we are separated from our old husband, our old manner of life and the power of death.

The law is not death, however. What is death is the sin that uses the law to take advantage of us. The law and commandments are the law of God and the declaration of the righteousness of God. However it was never intended that a wife uphold these requirements and hence as man, we could never fulfill these requirements. Only the husband could fulfill these requirements of the law. Thus, this husband, Christ has come to fulfill it, so that we may be joined into His righteousness, amen.

O Lord, give us the understanding of our separation from our former manner of life. Help us to cleave to you and to become one with you, amen.
