Hey you! Romans chapter 4 has 25 verses. It expounds on the power of faith unto righteousness, with special reference to Abraham the father of faith. We all know that without faith it is impossible to please God. Abraham pleases God by believing into the unseen. Amen.
You may read through the entire chapter 4 on your own, first, then return to read through my summary which would follow immediately after this paragraph. Feel free to add elements of your own understanding and revelation in the comment section! I’d love to read through them!
I thank God for the way Paul took us through the different chapters of Romans. We are now at chapter 4, and the synergy is just wonderful. We live in a day and age where people believe more in their ‘good works’. They feel they are better than others, that they are more moral, more friendly, more compassionate, more caring, more understanding, more spiritual, etc. We also fall into such mindsets as well. May the Lord forgive us. Of what account is this sort of mindset? To whom shall we boast of these ‘good works’? To God? God forbid. Just like Isaiah said, our righteousness is like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). We cannot boast of our works before God, because our works are still inputted with unrighteousness. May the Lord save us, amen. However, we are blessed! And how blessed are we?! We have a God that has offered us a free gift of righteousness. A God that is ready to take away our filth and input in us the righteousness of His first born Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
It is such a blessing for God to look away from our lawlessness. It is such a mercy for God to account us with no sin, amen. God has called us to look away from our works and to present ourselves to Him. To believe into His Son, Jesus Christ, and to receive the free gift of righteousness. We have to make this decision to receive this gift. Abraham heard the promise, he believed, but then at a point he thought by his works he could fast-track God’s promises. He had a son, Ishmael. But faithful is He that begins a thing, He will complete it. God doesn’t want us to ‘try’ to be good or to ‘try’ to make His will for us to be fulfilled. God wants us to rest in Him. To bask in His mercy. To open ourselves up to Him, and then, He will bring these things to a reality. He will live through us and cause us to benefit both from the objective eternal salvation and the subjective day-to-day salvation.
How wonderful it is that Abraham our forefather eventually turned and believed fully in God even when it looked impossible by human wisdom. He did not weaken in Faith when he considered the impotence of his own body which was as good as dead because of old age or the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. No unbelief or distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God. Glory be to God. Abraham’s faith was credited to him as righteousness. This is not for Abraham alone but for our sake too. Righteousness will be credited to us also who believe in, trust in, adhere to, and rely on God. May God help us to hold unto Him tenaciously in Jesus name, Amen.
May the name of the Lord be blessed, amen.
